What is the Federation of Positive Ageing?

Federation of Positive Aging Age Concern Chesterfield

The Federation is an initiative of Age Concern Chesterfield and District - an independent local charity working for older people in Bolsover Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire. The Federation networks older peoples clubs and groups together, and with voluntary sector and public sector organisations who also provide services to older adults so that we can all work together to combat social isolation and improve the quality of life for older people.

What will it do?

The Federation will provide opportunities for club leaders to meet together, and with other organisations offering services to older people, in order to raise members awareness of the help and opportunities available to them in the community. We will help clubs share costs, increase membership, access funding, attract volunteers and increase the range of activities provided.

By doing so we can improve the quantity and quality of choice available to older people needing friendships and social activity.

The Federation will also help voluntary, community and public sector organisations reach out to more older people by opening up communication channels with older peoples clubs and groups.

Update December 2015

Since our successful launch events we've been working to set up a programme of activities to respond to the interests and needs of older peoples clubs and groups as expressed at the events.

Opportunities for networking and sharing information scored highest in all our
feedback, followed by some specific interest in learning how to successfully promote clubs, groups and organisations, intergenerational working, attracting new volunteers, dementia awareness and fundraising. The programme of events we're organising aims to provide sessions which cover each of these topics while providing plenty of time for networking too and will take place in various locations all over Bolsover, Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire.

A monthly newsletter has been established as a platform for everyone involved in working with older people to contribute updates on their activities. The first 2 versions are available on this website, with more to come.
